Each year, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Mu Rho Zeta Chapter dedicates an evening of celebration to honor special members of the community for their dedicatiion and hard work as they enrich the lives of Akron residents. This year Darryl and Yvonne Brake are two of the honorees being recognized at The Heritage Ball: A Celebration of Black Achievement.

The leadership of Because He Cares, Inc. has extensive education and experience in the areas of nonprofit management, program development, and youth programming.
Yvonne Brake, MNO, Founder and Executive Director, is also director of development of Haven of Rest Ministries in Akron, Ohio. She holds a BA Degree in Management from Malone College, a Masters of Nonprofit Organization from Case Western Reserve University, and a Diploma of Theology in Black Church Studies from Ashland Theological Seminary.
She is a conference presenter in the areas strategic planning, African American philanthropy, and youth programming. She is a briefing paper contributor to the Michigan Council of Foundation's Learning to Give website www.learningtogive.org, and co-authored the play "Experience in Pride...Journey through African American History" with Dr. Freddie Johnson, History professor at Hope College.
In addition, she co-developed "Teaching Children to Give" learning modules for children K-12 grades
She is the recipient of the Black Woman of Excellence Award from the Summit County YWCA, the Friend of the Family Award from the Ohio Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, the Women of Excellence Award from the Akron Black Women's Leadership Caucus, and a 2008 recipient of the Judge Harold K. Stubbs Humanitarian Award in Social Service.
She is listed in the 2008 Marquis "Who's Who in America" and the 2008-2009 "Who's Who in American Women".

Darryl A. Brake, OCPSII, Associate Director, is also projects coordinator for Summit County Community Partnership, a county substance abuse prevention coalition. He has a BA in Mass Media Communication from the University of Akron, a Master of Public Administration from Cleveland State University (3 classes to graduate), and a Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Cleveland State University. He is an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist II and is certified by Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Conflict Management / Dispute Resolution & Mediation Trainer. Darryl is the former chair of the Urban Youth Track for the National Association of Gospel Rescue Missions and is a past board member of that same association. He currently serves on the boards of Pastoral Counseling and OPEN-M. He co-designed a Student Communication HIV/AIDS program funded by the Ohio Department of Health and his work with young people was highlighted in Essence and Upscale magazines and in local newspapers. He is a workshop presenter and provides educational, substance abuse and violence prevention programs to children in the Akron Public Schools and Akron Children's Medical Center PATHS program. He has worked with children of incarcerated parents and parents suffering with addictions through "BHC" Child Enrichment Program. He works to combat underage drinking and drug and substance abuse. The Ohio Black Women Leadership Caucus recognized him as one of the most influential African American Males.
