LET’S JOURNEY TOGETHER
This is a very exciting time for Because He Cares Ministry as we enter a period that closely mirrors another emotionally charged time in this ministries history. In the late 1980’s Because He Cares introduced a project called “Experience In Pride…Journey Through African American History”.
Martin Luther King, Jr.‘s birthday had recently become a national holiday and the one-week national celebration for Black History was increased to the entire month of February. These two events were the motivation behind the design and implementation of “EIP”, a drama project targeting school age students.
Through narration, music and live dramatic monologues, EIP took its audience on a journey from historic African nations to the current events of today. This program highlighted the lives of African American men and women who played key roles in the development of this country. The length of the program ranged from 15 – 60 minutes, depending upon the needs of each school or organization. This play has been presented in a four-state region to tens of thousands of students.
The play “Experience in Pride: is still available, however, it is being complemented by our new Living Legacy Project, which preserves the history of local African American leaders through video/DVD production. The stories of these fascinating and unique individuals will be preserved for other generations to view and to learn from. This project will not only preserve their own stories in their own words, but also provide an historical reference for future use and will inspire and challenge others to strive towards the betterment of our communities.
With this welcome message we look forward to an expanded journey as we embark on the “Living Legacy Project” to ensure the stories of yesterday and today live on.
